This is the intended behaviour - the purpose of the lookup is to provide values for the connecting column in the main (parent) table. Scrolling the lookup table tells IBO that you want to change the current value of the connecting column. IBO responds by placing the parent table in edit mode, so that the change becomes possible.

Perhaps you are using the wrong solution here. What do you want to happen in the parent dataset as a result of the lookup table being scrolled?
