Richard,
In my database using WIN1252 or ISO8859_1 with a collation different to the
default I cannot create varchar primary key columns greater than 84. Take a
look on http://www.mers.com/IBINDEXLENGHT.HTML.
Also a comparison of WIN1252 and ISO8859_1 could be useful
