I may be wrong, but the native IBO stuff is the core. TDataset came later - and
tries to keep track with Borland as they changed it.

The peripheral bits are actually Jason's bread and butter as they provide a fast
development path to his own end user applications and now that I have got into
it, a lot of bodges and fiddles to create just some of the IBO native facilities
have now been scrapped and we have a fast development package for Firebird /
Interbase.
