The stored procedure is "compiled" into the database. Some how the
C/S DB knows how to get things in and out faster. If you think about
it, the speed of the server is limited by how fast it can access the
disk. If you are able to internally limit the amount of data before
you even hit the disk, performance will be better.
Make sense? (I'm sure there are others who know how this works
exactly and can describe the process better.)
