Uhh... Well, that's good. Unexpected, but good. :P
You don't need to have a FireBird server installed on the computer on
which sql2gdb executes to do the migration. If it does, however, a
couple of features are enabled, such as erasing an existing file or
creating the required directories. If you create a remote connection,
these features don't kick in.
However, you will need the FireBird client library, so yes, you do need
to install FireBird (at least *some* part of FireBird). An IB
installation work fine, too, as does Delphi installed with the InterBase
client libraries (you get prompted at the end of the setup program).
Hope this helps.

Marcelo

Marcello,
First thanks for the tip.
Second, I had no idea how to do that...:). What I did was to click on
the
Firebird to check manually for updates. That worked properly (told me
there
were none) and I did not have the problem after that.
I am on a persistant connection, behind a corporate firewall.
Another question now : do I have to have FireBird installed on the
computer
to do the migration (I am trying to move an Access database to something
I
can use on Mac OS X: I did not install FireBird on the PC) ?
Thanks,
Guillaume
