This is a bug in the IBConsole program. Until it is fixed, you can get an
older version (.308) from the inprise.com/interbase download page. It has
other serious bugs, but not this particular show-stopping one.

A better tool for creating metadata is ib_wisql, a freeware which you can
pick up from www.ibobjects.com. For long-term use, consider Marathon (not
free but not expensive) from www.gimbal.com.au.
There are a number of superior client tools around. IBConsole is still
some way off being reliable.
