I should have been more specific,

the python code is done as         

       ro_transaction = DB.trans(fdb.ISOLATION_LEVEL_READ_COMMITED_RO)
        cur = ro_transaction.cursor()
        cur = DB.cursor()

I don't see any reason this should perform better but colleagues disagree

   At first, there is no such things as "ro connection".
   At second, ro transactions have no performance advantage.
