No one stepped up to write it. 

They've already got the FBEmbed support for their internal
files, so surely it can't be hard just to expose that for connections
just like MySQL and PostgreSQL.

Actually, I believe it makes it more difficult, maybe difficult isn't the right word but it makes it more work.

In the case of MySQL the initial work was done by someone at MySQL. 

In the case of PostgreSQL the initial was done by a member of the PostgreSQL community.

There is an old saying:

If it needs doing someone will do it, if no one does it it didn't need doing.

Not trying to be snarky, just honest.
