I haven't set up Firebird on a raspberry pi yet, but I will one day.

I would use a powered usb drive or SSD rather than the SD card just because I'd want the data protected as much as possible.

It's not as bad as it used to be, admittedly, but SD cards still "wear" and definitely corrupt eventually - as my phone, tablet and AK100 music player have shown.(Quality cards too.)
