NONE doesn't work for FIX_METADATA, as there is no way to establish a
conversion from NONE.

The problem is most likely that at a different characterset (non-unicode)
was used to create some metadata. You need to specify that character set
type. Most likely it is the 'default' character set of your OS (eg in
Western Europe it is most likely WIN1252).
