I did the merging without connected clients after all, just in case ;)
Everything went fine.

40GB database, 5GB delta. Mering took just a few seconds on a double
quad-core Xeon server with a hardware raid-10 SAS matrix and 64GB of RAM.
OK, I admit. Writing "large" was a bit lame.

Thanks for the info. Like i said, not being sure what may happen, I
waited the clients out ;). I would be in a deep dudu if a production
database went askrew. And please, don't ask how I got myself a 5-gig
delta file ;)
