I have no issues with Ubuntu stable and Debian on servers Choose
the ext4 by default without modifications , only if you hit the large inserts issue mentioned in the article is worth tuning the parameters but in the rest is better to leave the ext4 settings by default or else the os can't guarantee the write on the disk (that is the durability in the ACID)

The ext4 can be as good as XFS but is better to test it in your own workload

In the end it depends if you want the data safe or if you need the speed
