Subject: [firebird-support] Replication
I need some advice on replicating Firdbird databases. I've spent quite a lot
of time exploring several replicators listed on the FB website and I have to
admit that I'm more confused now than when I started.
Each of the ones I've investigated seem to have both advantages and
disadvantages and I'm trying to determine which one to use.
My system consists of a main and backup server onsite and two offsite
servers using commercial webhosts. I have several hundred customers that
will be accessing the FB databases with my client app on their machines.
When my app starts, it pings the first main server and if it gets a response
it uses that one. If it doesn't, it pings the main backup server and the two
offsite servers until it finds one it can contact. It then logs into that
server and proceeds with adding and editing records. In almost all cases it
will use the main onsite server but if something is wrong with the main
onsite server it could be editing and adding records to whatever backup
server it connected to. Obviously I need to replicate the databases across
all four servers.
If anyone has experience with FB replication I would really appreciate a
recommendation for Replicator software. I'm not looking forward to having to
spend a lot of time trying all the alternatives to find the best software to
use.
Thanks very much in advance for any advice anyone can give me.
