I'm no expert on Windows licensing, but I would not be surprised if the
IT people are actually right, concerning lilcense terms. It is possible
that Microsoft license terms don't allow a regular WinXP machine be
connected to by more than one person at a time. There are no technical
limitations, of course, but...

If that is the problem, a Linux box would be perfect.
