I had a quick, very quick, look at the 2.1 source code for gbak. There
appears to be two command line switches -svc and -svc_thd which appear
in jrd/svc.h. Both are something to do with service threads. But I don't
know what.

As I said, it was a quick look, and I'm not a great decoder of what the
source is doing, so I could be totally wrong here! No doubt the error of
my ways will be (rightly) pointed out by a developer!
