I take it the described class converts from some source into a file
format that contains data in FB's native data formats, rather than
converting all data to text and then cast inside FB from varchar(n) and
char(n) into whatever datatype you need.

I would hope that the native datatype formats are documented somewhere.
The article could use a link to those docs.
