Michael:
I understand your skepticism. First Norton Ghost makes an image of the disk. Then if a problem happens, a person can quickly restore their computer. You can compare NG to a "recovery disk", but with your current stuff in it.
I don't use recovery disks, because I HATE the crap that computer manufactures put on a system. So when I buy a computer, I will purchase a boxed copy of the OS, repartition the drive, and build up the computer the way I want it.
So on the list of my original post, you see the the steps I'm talking about. Since the same problem was able to be recreated on two computers, and when I reghosted it with 2.1.x, and it didn't happen, and I performed a service scan, and all is fine, the problem is with FB 2.5, not a hardware problem. As I said previously, it always happened in the FB folder, and happened on different computers. This confirms that it wasn't a HDD problem.
No, I can't "simply except the Firebird folder from the backup", as said above, it is create a disk image, and again, that the NG of my disk is fine with FB 2.1, but not 2.5, and it was ALWAYS in the FB folder. This proves that it isn't a HDD problem. Because if it was a HDD problem, both NG would fail... plus it also happened on my wife's computer.
If it was a disk problem, it would fail on every ghosting attempt, even FB 2.1. There is something in FB, that when NG reads it, it sends a power down signal to the computers.
