I have to say that is the exact opposite of what I am finding on machines. Even
where same machine is dual booted, windows is substantially slower than an SUSE
linux setup.

First question would have to be what 'setup' are you using on the linux box ...
I still prefer classic but then it's running into PHP as the access layer. And
what file system have you installed ... I believe that does have a strong
bearing on performance.
