more of a "happy accident" if it does work.

Fortunately it was another "happy accident"... It worked.. so I'm good
to go..

I guess I was not clear.. The source is a v2.5 production database that
I want to move a copy to my dev machine (a Mac on 10.5.x) that can only
run v2.1 until I have a chance to upgrade to 10.6.
