I in what's personal I do not recommend you to 2,5 emigrate to the version at least until the RC3 since the RC2 has a lot of problems still does not go out.

For data bases of production I recommend you better to emigrate to 2.1.3

Yes. Fully legal SQL is always upward-compatible. ;-) But look at derived tables in vv.2+ as you may well find there will be a performance gain.
