are you intending to use these ID columns as a primary key? If so, I
suspect you won't be able to if they are not defined as NOT NULL in the
database. Just a thought.

Additionally, all constraints and business rules *should* be defined in
the database because that way, any application that tries to change the
data is subject to all the rules and regulation. By putting some
"constraints" and rules into the application, you are creating a void
through which data integrity corruptions can sneak!
