There's a configuration option to allow Firebird to use non-local databases, but
I don't know whether this works for simple Z:\ drive sharing (as opposed to
NFS?), works on windows (not exactly POSIX?), and how you configure it when using
embedded. Yes, it's very very dangerous, but that's not the end of the story.
