1 - ***never*** use RAID 0 for databases -- RAID 0 provides no failure protection.

2 - don't use database shadows, they were for a time before RAID was commonly available. RAID will perform significantly faster than shadows, and will not impose any of the limitations.

3 - Add 1 or 2 more SAS drives to the database RAID set and move to RAID 5.
