Interesting that you say its required. It seems the forced writes setting can be applied without shutting the database down ... will it not take effect until the database is shutdown? I guess it sounds like it will be best to shutdown the database first anyway.
We have 10,000 databases on different machines. There are a few different apps that use the database and some of the machines act as server on small networks.
