You download the Classic Server, this use inetd/xinetd.
And rpm->deb maybe not work for install this.
Try the tar.gz package and/or the super server package
(FirebirdSS-2.1.3.18185-0.i686.tar.gz), this come with install.sh script. I
use this for Slackware Linux and work fine.
The 2.1.3 Version (come with more features)
