I have seen something similar (although with more human readable information) in a system that was developed with long names (eg FK_<TABLE>_<FIELD>_<DESTINATION_TABLE>_<FIELD>). When they went to support Oracle they truncated the names if the name was long and added a hash for the full name, so they would be able to keep their persistence / database abstraction layer as is and leave the translation between the full name and short name to the database specific strategy.
