that has nothing to do with aliases... if you can connect once to an
alias, you should always be able to connect to that same alias.

I can think of few things:

- bad connection between client and server.
- database filename not accessible for fbserver (rights of file and/or
rights of fbserver)
- Some misbehaving antivirussoftware that has built-in internet
protection (mind: if so, switching this software to OFF often is not
enough, you have to deinstall it or very properly configure it)
- 'something' on the server that 'somehow' inteferes with firebird. Malware?

Sorry, for the moment thats all I can think of... If the arror you get
says that the databasefile cannot be found, then at least you seem to
have some connection...
