I have just converted the app back to use ODBC connections as opposed to connection strings and I can confirm the behavior I mentioned in my previous reply to you. Of the 4 aliases only one alias DEVE2:C17_7202 passes Test Connection in the ODBC dialog the other 3 aliases fail stating
