Right, I saw that launchd has taken over the roles of xinetd and some other well-known daemons from mac osx 10.4 onward. Provided the OP is using the latest pkg from the website, the firebird script for launchd would have been installed.

I'm starting to wonder whether the OP is trying to run a Windows kit in Parallels or similar Windows emulator...that can't work, afaik.
