Error 1061 is a Windows error and indicates that Service-control received the wrong response (or at the wrong time). In the past I have seen this (with other applications) if the application did not follow the protocol for services, or if the application thinks it is running under a different servicename than Windows and returns its response under the wrong servicename (the servicename is used as a handle). I am not sure if this is possible with firebird.

I have seen references this could also happen if Firebird or the service is installed incorrectly (some registry entries might be missing or incorrect). Removing and reinstalling the service entry or removing and reinstalling firebird will probably fix that.

BTW: are you sure you are not just chasing every error message in the log: this may not be related to the problem of your customer (especially if the error is 3 months old and you received the logs today).
