Views are views, derived tables are select statements in the from clause, eg:
SELECT *
FROM (SELECT field1, field2 FROM tableX WHERE somecondition)

Views can be used to eliminate derived table from a query, or the other way around, derived table can be used to eliminate the need for (some) views. Depending on your usage pattern (and complexity of your views/derived tables).
