or

c) To increase their knowledge by asking people who have already done a)
to get helpful and educational replies.

I think a and c often work in conjunction, and for FB with it's
scattered and (relatively) difficult-to-find documentation, c) becomes
more important than a) in many situations.

I also find some experts' replies to be unnecessarily rude or
condescending, like RTFM (which is where exactly?), you're stupid for
not knowing this-and-that, or isn't that obvious you dumbass, etc. Not
in those words of course, but the general tone of some replies is like that.

So, some extra effort in the documentation area (and who will volonteer
for that...?) and some extra effort from experts to be helpful rather
than rude would probably do a lot for FB.

Also, Dimitry, if you want to tell a poster about your a and b, you can
do it in different ways: nice helpful ways on one hand, and rude or
condescending ones on the other. Which is better?

Experts who find questions to be stupid would probably do better by just
ignoring the question rather than replying in a rude way.
