Thanks, but nothing will help against those zombies in the case of CS
on Windows before FB 2.x. The fix I am talking about has not been
backported.
The OP (Mitch) was specifically planning to do an install of 1.5.4 CS
on Windows - this is why I wanted to warn him.
I found the original blog/documentation entry.
Boy... how time passes... did not realize this was already more than 2
years ago...
look here:

> It has been discovered recently (thanks to Eugene Kilin) that Win32 builds of Classic Server did not set up some socket options properly, including SO_KEEPALIVE. So if you have troubles with "zombie" processes not terminating after the keepalive internal, this is the reason. The patch has been committed into HEAD today and it will be available in the v2.0 RC2 release.

in 2.0"
A side note: the zombies are my only problem, and one that I can live
with very well - until we will switch those databases to 2.1. All in
all the FB CS 1.5.2 and higher are a VERY good piece of software which
proved to be an outstandingly reliable backend for our application
data.
