I did try it already but it did not work. Sorry if I did not make that
clear. The documentation I was using showed how to modify a password but
only when using sysdba. When I changed the user to my own user, modifying
the password failed. I did some further searching about on the web and from
what I understand, your answer is not quite correct.
In Firebird 2, a user can modify their own password. I have Firebird 2
installed on another computer here and I managed to successfully change my
own password.
However, on the main PC I use it has Firebird 1.5.1 installed. In this
version of Firebird, you cannot change your own password. Can I ask if there
are any workarounds for this? If not, it is not too much of a problem.
Finally, please do not make assumptions about what I have or have not tried.
I freely admit I am not a Firebird expert, but one of the main ways I learn,
and others learn, is by asking questions. Your response is exactly the type
of response that puts people off asking questions. If people are going to
start using Firebird more, they are going to come to lists like these with
their basic questions as they attempt to get their head round how it works.
The group web page makes no mention of not asking basic or newbie questions,
and I for one am grateful to those who are willing to help us non-experts
become experts. :-)
