Thanks SO much for the prompt reply.

I could connect using IB_SQL.EXE (IBO's SQL tool) no problem locally
on the file server Kirk.

So, I went to the XP - Windows Security Center and turned off the
Firewall on Kirk. Connected no problem. Can't believe I didn't
think of that! Thanks.

I know this is out of place for this group BUT do you have any idea
how to ceate an exception in Security Center's Firewall for
Firebird? I tried adding "ibserver.exe" as an exception but it
didn't work.
