The limit actually varies from implementation to implementation, and is
dependent on an OS limitation -- so strictly speaking it is not a
hard-wired Firebird limitation.

Is it something that the development team wants to change? Yes, most
definitely!

But neither of the changes are as straight-forward as you might think,
otherwise they would have been done a LONG time ago.
