Update:

1. the powerpc build for Firebird 2.1 MacOSX are no longer available for download.
2. Looks like something in the remote interface is badly broken (endian issue?)
3. I have however managed to fix the segmentation fault in Classic...
This looks like a gcc bug on optimisation. Something that does not occur using
gcc 4.01 build 5465 from 10.5.
gcc on 10.4 ppc is 4.01 5247
