Sounds more like you need to do some research about database servers first, so at least you can *pretend* to know what you are talking about! ;-)

For Firebird-specific topics, visit the Documentation Index ( http://firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=doc ) and read EVERYTHING. The release notes (starting at v.1.5 and working up) give a lot of information. The various Quick Sheets might help.

Check out the Papers section: there is a long one there written by me a couple of years ago (Firebird Enterprise White Paper ) that talks about the database engine features in (more or less) layman's language...it won't be enough if you really have NO idea how database servers are used, but it might help you to know what you don't know. ;-)

p.s. Talk to your tutor, if you have one. You really seem to be in deep water. You might be better off if you can be re-assigned a piece of end-user software to review, rather than a software that *by nature* exists to be a component of end-user applications.
