Yes. Don't try to connect to InterBase databases with ODS > 10. If you can connect to dbdemos then it is because it is still in an older (Firebird-compatible) on-disk structure.

Firebird's gbak (or Service Manager) won't be able to back up InterBase 7 or higher databases, either.
