I do find it slightly amusing that for the convenience of a progress
bar, the user may have to first wait for the time it would have taken to
perform the operation, so that it can calculate the length of the
progress bar.

It begs the question, of if we need a progress bar to show us how we are
going with calculating the progress bar length.

But I know life isn't that simple, and not all choices are our own.
