I hope someone comes up with material that would be helpful to you! I
don't have any because all the discussions I remember on this topic
reduce down to "Don't worry about it because the software design has
been optimized in most ways already. In fact, it is harder to 'tune' a
Firebird database because generally it does not need tuning."

Now that doesn't apply to all situations, but the approach Firebird
takes will cover the general use cases pretty well.
