I really can't predict what's going to happen with
future versions. We try not to make arbitrary changes
that break user applications, but durable external files
aren't really the highest priority. You can probably
salvage those files by copying them into internal tables
in 1.5.x, backing up the database and restoring it as
2.0 then recreating the external tables. Something of
a nuisance, to be sure. Any major ODS version change
can invalidate external tables.
