Mostly it's a subjective assessment. However, one or two (like the
Big One referred to in my original post) are showing significant
performance drop.

Perhaps it's the use Dialect 1 that's the root cause, and possibly
(as suggested by someone else here) the BDE/Internet combination is,
er, less than ideal.

Running FB2.01 in a local network has shown some noticeable
improvement in one particular application here (radio audience
analysis software), and this is welcome.

I'm fairly convinced though that the main cause of any loss of
performance is caused by indexes which are not activated properly. I
have no idea why!
