All very true. However, reusing space isn't something you can control as
a user, per se. The point I was trying to make was that size isn't a
guarantee of a certain amount of "live" data that can be used. IOW,
IMHO, it's better and probably easier to control the amount of data than
it is to monitor the size.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, though. It helps us understand it a
little more in depth.
