I'm not sure, but what hardware are you running on? I'm running FB2.x from the
distribution, on an AMD64 based system, which runs fine in classic mode, but I
suspect you may have to rebuild the 1.5.4 version to cater for the later
versions of libraries like NPTL? The classic version may be worth a try to see
if you get the same problem.
