I was thinking about something much simpler like using Windows Shell.

Had a good look round for GUI tools that do a restore, but found nil usable.

Will ask in Firbird-Tools. Is that a FB newsgroup?

The gbak code is available through function calls to the Services
API. If you need to build it into your applications, ask on the
forum for the database access interface you're using.

Several GUI tools have backup and restore available. Ask on
Firebird-tools....
