One could apply this same logic to the rest of the Firebird
distribution (it is OSS after all) but I think there is a middle
ground here. Because of this, I don't think it is unreasonable to
expect the UDFs shipped with FB to have conventional NULL handling.
But I understand that there may be backwards compatibility issues
with the ib_ library.
