I don't have any idea what they do - I just know that when I build
Firebird 1.5.3 myself, their UDF shared object doesn't work (I have no
access to the source). I assume there is some kind of compiler flag
that's required, though it's possible that the only responsible way to
do this is to build Firebird and the UDFs at the same time, and that I
can't do this by myself.

Sounds like I need to take this up with the vendor.
