You probably didn't read the entire discussion, so I'll explain:
Debian/Ubuntu package installs into /usr/lib/firebird2, and there isn't
even /opt/firebird directory.
The policy is that package users should contact the packager first in
case of some problems, and upstream (us) only if the problem is not in
the packaging itself. But, it's hard to draw a line here until we
determine what is the real problem.
