Rick,

I don't know your setup of the Firebird installation, but my earliest
trouble started because the quick start guide is not clear enough for
me that for classic server on localhost with local database dirve, you
still need the host name before you can connect to the database file:

SQL>connect "localhost:c:\firebird\examples\employee.fdb"
